Lanier and Phillips Named Champions at APP Next Gen Series’ San Antonio Event
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Pickleball’s rising stars were on full display in the Lone Star State at the APP’s first Next Gen Series event of the year in San Antonio, Feb. 17-19. Spencer Lanier and Alli Phillips shined the brightest, becoming the event’s men’s and women’s overall champions, respectively. Lanier took home a gold and two silvers, while Phillips earned a gold, a bronze, and a fourth-place finish.
Over 75 players enjoyed three days of competition at Chicken N Pickle – an innovative indoor/outdoor entertainment complex with numerous dedicated pickleball courts.
On Friday, Lanier and Riley Bohnert teamed up for the mixed doubles gold, while Jack Munro and Joshua Elliot earned gold in the alternate men’s doubles bracket. Saturday’s action once again saw Munro and Elliot earn men’s doubles gold, while Dylan Ciampini and Averee Beck brought home the gold in women’s doubles. In Sunday’s singles competition, Jack Foster won men’s gold and Phillips earned women’s gold.
The APP Next Gen Series aims to develop the next generation of pickleball professionals through unique three-day events for players aged 16-23. Throughout the events players compete in tournament-style brackets, receive coaching and mentorship from senior professionals, and attend educational seminars to prepare for a pickleball career.
