APP Tour Returns to Flushing Meadows for The Boca Raton 2023 APP New York City Open at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
The APP Tour is set to host one of the largest professional pickleball tournaments in the nation this week – The Boca Raton 2023 APP New York City Open, held May 23-28 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. Six days of world-class pickleball action will take place at one of the most iconic venues in all of sports – with the legendary Arthur Ashe Stadium as a backdrop.
More than 1,100 players, including 850 amateurs, will participate in The Boca Raton 2023 APP New York City Open. Amateurs, pros, and senior pros of all ages will participate in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles competition throughout the week.
The Boca Raton 2023 APP New York City Open will be streamed live on ESPN+ on Saturday, May 27 starting at 1 pm ET and Sunday, May 28, starting at 11 am ET. Additionally, a one-hour tournament recap special will air live on ESPN2 from 8-9 pm ET on Monday, May 29.
Spectator tickets for the event are available via Ticketmaster; Walk-up tickets for single-day sessions will also be available for purchase at the venue with doors opening at 8 am ET each day.
Among the top pros participating are defending gold medalists Andrei Daescu, Simone Jardim, Parris Todd, Yates Johnson, Salome Devidze, Rob Nunnery, and Alix Truong. Shelby Bates, Hunter Johnson Megan Fudge, Ryler DeHeart and Susannah Barr all return to action in the Big Apple.
Daescu’s doubles dominance continued in Cincinnati, winning gold in men’s doubles with Nunnery and in mixed doubles with Truong – each of their first gold medals of 2023. Daescu has won eight gold medals this season – leading all APP men’s pros. The Palm Beach Gardens, Florida resident earned his fifth-consecutive men’s pro doubles gold and third gold in a row in mixed pro doubles, and did it with two first-time partnerships.
Todd leads all APP women’s pros with 12 total medals and has eight gold medals in 2023, tied with Daescu for the most among APP pros this season. The Fort Myers resident won an unprecedented fifth-straight women’s pro doubles gold alongside Jardim at the 2023 APP Vlasic Classic, while also earning bronze in mixed pro doubles alongside Hunter Johnson. Todd won the women’s pro singles gold medal at the 2022 APP New York City Open, and also took home a silver in women’s pro doubles.
Following a breakthrough performance in Sacramento, Yates Johnson successfully defended his men’s singles title in Cincinnati in a rematch against his twin brother Hunter – earning his second gold medal of 2023. Hunter also earned bronze in mixed pro doubles alongside Parris Todd, which brought his 2023 total medal count to 13 – leading all men’s and women’s APP pros this season.
Jardim, one of the sport’s elite veterans, took home a remarkable fifth-straight women’s pro doubles gold alongside Parris Todd at the APP Vlasic Classic. The Naples, Florida resident won gold in women’s pro doubles at last year’s 2022 APP New York City Open.
Truong was all smiles following her first career APP Tour pro gold medal in Cincinnati, winning the mixed pro doubles final alongside Daescu. The Falls Church, Virginia native also earned bronze in women’s pro doubles alongside Milan Rane in Cincinnati.
Devidze was triumphant in Cincinnati, picking up her second women’s pro singles gold medal of 2023. The Jupiter, Florida resident earned silver in women’s pro singles at the 2022 APP New York City Open, falling to Todd in the final.
Nunnery earned his first gold medal of 2023 alongside Daescu in men’s pro doubles. The duo will pair up once again in New York, seeking to defend their title in a draw featuring more than 40 teams.
Barr brought home two more silvers from Sacramento, one alongside Fudge in women’s pro doubles and the other in mixed pro doubles with Nunnery.
