APP pros and twin brothers Hunter Johnson and Yates Johnson experienced the thrill of a lifetime in Daytona Beach earlier this month – and we aren’t talking about winning medals on Championship Sunday.

The brothers joined forces with Dean Matt and Shannon Yeager, two pilots, avid pickleball addicts and instructors, on their quest to set a Guinness World Record for the fastest time to play a game of pickleball in all 48 contiguous States. Matt and Yeager have their sights on playing 48 games of pickleball, in all 48 contiguous United States, in less than 48 days, using their own private plane, hence the 48-48-48 Challenge.

Matt and Yeager met up with the Johnson twins at the 2023 APP Daytona Beach Open, where the foursome played a game of pickleball on Championship Court before the 48 team took the twins up for a flying lesson over Daytona. The Johnsons shared some of the pickleball expertise with Matt and Yaeger, and after that, it was time to take to the skies – where Yates took control in the cockpit, claiming seniority over his twin brother by dint of being born first!
