USA Pickleball National Academy for Referee Training Beta Test
L1 to L2 / Registered Referee Training Boot Camp
USA Pickleball is piloting a Boot Camp to train Level 1 referees to become not only Level 2 credentialed referees but also registered referee trainers.
The purpose of the Boot Camp is to increase the number of credentialed referees, especially in underserved areas of the country. Led by Randi Levenbaum, Certified Referee, Mountain Region Referee Training Coordinator, and a team of co-instructors, the Boot Camp will also serve as a beta test for establishing accredited branches of the National Academy for Referee Training around the country.
Applications for the program will be accepted from March 10 through April 2, 2023. Level 1 Referees interested in applying should contact their Regional Referee Training Coordinator.
Successful applicants will then be required to participate in several online training sessions in a pre-Boot Camp. The pool of applicants will be narrowed down to six participants that will be invited to attend the one-week Boot Camp in Las Vegas from September 8-14, 2023.
USA Pickleball is providing monetary travel stipends to the six worthy Level 1 referees to attend the one-week Boot Camp. In exchange for the travel stipends, the Level 1 referees will not only be expected to achieve Level 2 status but also registered referee trainer status. Accordingly, as part of their selection, they will have to agree to return home after their one-week Boot Camp in Las Vegas to start their own referee training program. In essence, we expect those selected to become ‘force multipliers’ for referees.
